Infectious diseases are caused by infectious agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi or their toxic products). Many are also communicable diseases, meaning they can be passed from one person to another.
We diagnose and treat a range of infections with a focus on complex infectious diseases. Some of the things we help with include:
Tropical illnesses such as malaria, dengue and typhoid
HIV
Infections of the heart valve
Fevers of unknown origin
Encephalitis and meningitis
Respiratory infections such as the 'flu' and COVID-19
Complex community acquired infections such as infections of the urinary tract, severe soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections
Infections in patients with compromised immune system
Infections caused by resistant pathogens such as MRSA
